John P Cernich Sr. Remembrance
Updated On: Apr 28, 2019

Today marks the 50th anniversary of John P. Cernich Sr.’s line of duty death while with Littleton Fire Rescue. Shortly after reporting for duty at Littleton Fire Station 1 on April 28, 1969, Captain John Cernich was participating in a daily mandatory physical fitness program. One of the requirements was the completion of a one mile run in less than eight minutes. As he finished the run, he collapsed and died immediately from a heart attack.

Honor Guard placed a wreath at SMFR Headquarters in the Memorial Plaza this morning to honor his life and service. Family members were present for the ceremony.
